We offer diving courses for all levels - from introduction dives and the entry level "Open Water Diver" to advanced training for the experienced diver as well as freediving courses.

Here at Calypso Diving Centre we teach based on the guidelines of
SSI, PADI & NRC, all of them internationally recognized diving organisations.

Your personal choice of the best course and organisation may depend on the way you prefer to study, your time available, your language and previous dive training. We will be happy to help you in finding a suitable option!

INTRODUCTION DIVE & BUBBLEMAKER
If you have never tried diving before or don’t have a qualification yet and just want to do a dive without any prior studying, this is your best option!

Minimum Age: 8 Years
Duration: 2-3 Hours
You will experience a real dive in one of our sheltered bays with suitable conditions for a beginner's dive.
Expect lots of fun, exciting new impressions, and plenty of marine life such as Lizard fishes, different types of brasses, octopuses and with some luck a flying gurnard!
The session starts with a short tuition where you will learn the necessary bits of dive theory, followed by the fitting and explanation of the dive equipment you will use. Then it is time for your underwater adventure!
Please plan for 2-3 hours altogether. You can choose between a morning or an afternoon dive.
Rental of dive equipment is included, no hidden costs.
Children aged 8-9 years have a maximum depth limit of 2 metres.

PRO NRC
Professional Nitrox dive training

Duration: 1.5 Hours
​​Nitrox, also known as Enriched Air, EANx or Safe Air, is a gas with an oxygen content above 21%.
In scuba diving it is mainly used to reduce the proportion of nitrogen in the breathing gas mixture. Using a breathing gas with proportionally less nitrogen and an increase of oxygen reduces the risk of decompression sickness for the same dive profile. It can alternatively also be used to allow an extended dive time within the no decompression limit.
ProNRC, formerly known under the name NRC, has become very well-known in the diving industry over the past 17 years, and has modernized Nitrox’s image over these past years. The ProNRC Nitrox training is thorough, easy to understand and is highly recommended to any diver!

PADI COURSES
PADI certainly is one of the most established dive training organisations worldwide. Their courses are designed to make learning enjoyable and worthwhile. No matter whether you are a beginner or advanced diver, under the guidance of your professional PADI Instructor, you will gain confidence while mastering important safety concepts and skills.

SCUBA DIVER

Duration: 2 Days
The Scuba Diver certification is the first step into diving towards the Open Water Diver and is ideal for younger kids and everyone with little time.
The course consists of dive theory, the learning of different skills above and under water as well as two open water dive to practice the newly acquired skills.
After completion of the course you will be qualified to dive under the supervision of a dive professional and to a maximum depth of 12 metres.
All equipment needed during the course, your first logbook and transportation to the shore dive sites are included. The PADI certification fee and the PADI Open Water Diver materials have to be paid additionally.
​An Upgrade to Open Water Diver is possible anytime.
OPEN WATER DIVER

Duration: 4 days
During the PADI Open Water Diver Course we will teach you all the necessary skills and knowledge needed to start your new hobby scuba diving in a safe and responsible way.
Theory lessons and confined water training are the basis for the four open water dives when you get the chance to apply your new skills. By taking the written exam (a multiple choice test) you and your instructor will ensure that you have understood all important principles of scuba diving. The Open Water Diver entitles you to dive to 18 metres maximum depth (12 m for students under the age of 15 - Junior Open Water Diver certification).
All equipment needed during the course and transportation to the shore dive sites are included. The PADI certification fee and the PADI Open Water Diver materials have to be paid additionally.

After completion of this course the rental of diving equipment is free of charge for further dives with us during your holiday!

ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER

Minimum age: 10 years
Duration: 2.5 days / 5 dives
We recommend this course for divers who have successfully accomplished their Open Water Diver and and gained some experience with fun dives in the meantime. This course consists of 5 adventure dives with different focuses. The deep and the navigation dive is mandatory. The three remaining dives can be chosen from many interesting possibilities such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Fish Identification, Night Diving, Wreck Diving just to name a few.
Rental of diving equipment (excluding torch and dive computer) and transport to the shore dive sites is included.
The PADI teaching materials and the PADI Certification fee have to be paid additionally.
RESCUE DIVER

Duration: 2 - 3 days
Prerequisites: AOWD qualification, Current First Aid course certification incl. CPR e.g. EFR course.
The PADI Rescue Diver course is ideal for any diver with some diving experience who would like to perfect his/her skills in and around the water. Emphasis in this course is on how to help yourself and others in difficulties, and how to become confident with any issue which may occur during your dive.
All practical training, rental of diving equipment (excluding torch and dive computer) and transfers to the shore dive sites are included in the course price.
If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we charge

SSI COURSES
For more than 50 years, SSI has provided high-quality training in recreational scuba diving, freediving, and more.
The theoretical training is be based on well-designed online learning programs, which will give you freedom to study at your own pace and in your preferred language wherever you like.
You simply register with SSI and can start with the first chapter of academics right away!
After your booking with us we will activate your entire training tools for the entire chosen course. Of course your instructor will explain all open questions you may have during your actual training.

The SSI Advanced Adventurer provides certified divers an introduction into five different SSI Specialty programs under the direct supervision of an SSI Professional. You have the choice between many interesting subjects such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Deep Diving, Night Diving, Wreck Diving and many more.
Your instructor will discuss the most suitable options with you.
Rental of diving equipment (excluding torch and dive computer) and transportation to the shore dive sites is included.
The SSI training tools and SSI Certification fee have to be paid additionally.

Duration: depends on previous dive experience.
Additional completion of the Science of Diving program is required for receiving the Divemaster qualification.

DIVER STRESS & RESCUE

Prerequisites: Being physically capable of completing the required skills, current First Aid, CPR & O2 Provider training within two years prior to issuing a certification card (ask us for our course dates).
The Rescue Diver is an ideal course if you already have some diving experience and would like to learn how to help yourself and others in difficult situations. This course will help you to become completely confident with any issue that may occur during a dive.
All practical training, rental of diving equipment (excluding torch and dive computer) and transfer to the shore dive sites is included in the course.

DIVING AND HEALTH
Under Maltese regulations any guest diving with us, be it an intro dive, a dive course, accompanied or unaccompanied diving – must confirm their fitness to dive by filling in and signing a medical screening statement upon check-in.
The presentation of a Medical Certificate which declares you as “FIT TO DIVE” is mandatory for any diver who
has any condition that could be a contraindication for diving (i.e. any “yes” in the medical statement) or who is 60 years and older and will be beginning their diving journey with an entry level course, i.e. Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver course.

It remains in our discretion to refuse diving with you in case of certain indications. In general we recommend you see a physician for an overall check-up before you take up diving. ​​
